Description
The HPGDDTS bench is a hiph-pressure gas-dynamic device testing system for the study of the thermodynamic characteristics of models of elements of space hardware and new technologies.
To form working flows with a wide range of characteristics, the bench is equipped with a set of flat and shaped nozzles and units. High-pressure air is fed to the settling chamber of the tunel and enters the models under study, the inlet pressure being set using a pressure regulator.
In experiments, clean and dry high-pressure air with a dew point of no more than 218 K is used. The maximum air flow rate is 4 kg/s. The duration of a test is 180 s. The air feed system and the test parameters are controlled remotely from the control panel. The bench has means for visualizing flows of different speeds using a variety of methods.
The bench is equipped with strain gage transducers to determine forces and moments and with a computer-aided measuring-and-computing and control complex.
Capabilities
The bench makes possible:
- determination of the forces and moments produced by the models under study;
- measurement of the pressure distribution over the model surface;
- pulse actions onto working surfaces (shock tube regime);
- jet flow control;
- visualization of flows of different speeds using the shadow method, the interferometric method, the method of color visualizing coatings, the laser sheet technique, etc.
Advantages
- The bench has two work places thus allowing two and more models to be prepared and tested;
- The air fed to the bench can be heated using a self-contained heating system.
Use
The capabilities of the bench are used to advantage in experimental studies of models and units of space hardware and commercial equipment.
