From October 26 to 29, 2026, the 44th European Space Agency (ESA) Antenna Workshop was held at ESA’s European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk (the Netherlands), and Deputy Director for Science of ITM NASU and SSAU Serhii Khoroshylov took part in it. The theme of the event was “Antenna and RF Systems for Space Applications.”
One of the key events of the workshop was the technical session “Deployable Antennas,” co-chaired by Serhii Khoroshylov and Alessio Tornese (Telespazio for ESA). In the session, they moderated presentations and expert discussions on advanced designs of deployable space antennas, large reflector systems, lightweight space structures, and deployment technologies for next-generation satellite platforms.
In addition to his duties as session co-chair, Serhii Khoroshylov presented a research paper, “Central Feed Deployable Mesh Reflector Antenna Based on Cable-Net System Approximating Parabolic and Hyperbolic Surfaces.”

The paper presented a new concept of a large space reflector antenna, aimed at solving a key problem in the development of space radar systems: ensuring the maximum curvature of the reflecting surface of the reflector at the minimum mass and height of the supporting structure. The proposed approach makes it possible to combine low structural mass, compactness in the transport configuration, and high electromagnetic performance after deployment, which is especially relevant for modern satellite communication and Earth remote sensing systems and space research missions.
The results presented attracted interest from specialists in space structures and antenna systems and became the subject of a discussion of new approaches to the development of large-aperture space antennas.
Serhii Khoroshylov’s participation in the workshop as session co-chair and speaker was a significant contribution to the development of international scientific and technical cooperation and confirmed the high level of Ukrainian research in space antenna technologies. The workshop was an important platform for sharing experience, presenting new research results, and establishing cooperation among leading European and international specialists in antenna systems for space applications.
