A new projection-iterative variant of the variational-grid method of local variations has been considered, which allows to significantly reduce the computer calculation time. The proposed variant is used to solve problems of local stability of spherical shells. The values of the critical forces and the configuration of the waveforms obtained during the calculation have been confirmed experimentally.

The contact interactions of the elements of shell structures and their limit states under local loads have been studied. The corresponding problems of optimal design for shells supported by a frame of variable stiffness, based on the principle of Pontryagin maximum, have been considered.
