MS in mechanics, Dnipropetrovsk State University, 1983; Ph.D., 1985, Senior Researcher in flying vehicle heat engines, 1994; D.Sc., 2002; professor, 2011; Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 2009; Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 2021.

Junior Researcher (1985–1986), Researcher (1986–1988), Senior Researcher (1988–1993), Head of Laboratory (1993–1996), Head of Department (since 1996), Director of the Institute of Technical Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine since 2003.

O.V. Pylypenko is a well-known scientist in the dynamics of liquid-propellant rocket propulsion systems (LPRPSs), complex hydromechanical systems, and vibration protection systems of space vehicles, automobiles, and military vehicles. The main lines of his research work involve the study of the dynamics of structural elements of space hardware, power equipment, and transport vehicles and the development of efficient means to provide dynamic compatibility between the LPRPS and the rocket structure and of quasi-zero-stiffness vibration protection systems.

The list of O.V. Pylypenko’s scientific publications numbers more than 170 titles. The main results of investigations are published in 4 books and in articles in the journals “Kosmicheskaya Nauka i Tekhnologiya”, “Aviatsionno-Kosmicheskaya Tekhnika i Tekhnologiya”, “Tekhnicheskaya Mekhanika”, and other scientific editions and were presented at international symposia in the USA, South Korea, Japan, Russia, and Ukraine. O.V. Pylypenko has inventor’s certificates and patents for 57 inventions and utility models.

In 1998, O.V. Pylypenko won the M.K. Yangel Prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for the series of works “Development of Theoretical-Experimental Methods for the Study of the Dynamic Loading and Dynamic Compatibility of Liquid-Propellant Rocket Propulsion Systems and Launch Vehicle Structures”, and in 2005 he won the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology for his achievements in aerospace engineering. In 2011, he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine.

O.V. Pylyoenko is a member of the Bureau of the Department of Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, a member of the Section of Mathematics and Mechanics at the Committee for the State Prizes of Ukraine in Science and Technology, and Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal “Tekhnicheskaya Mekhanika”. He regularly takes part in international symposia and conferences and is invited to their program and organizational committees.

O.V. Pylypenko is engaged in educational work too. He is a Professor of the Power Engineering Department at O.Honchar Dnipropetrovsk National University (DNU), co-author of textbook “Silence automatic firearms”, and supervises Ph.D. theses. He is a member of a specialized academic council at DNU for Ph.D. and D.Sc. conferment.
