Scientists of the Institute of Technical Mechanics of the NAS of Ukraine and the SSA of Ukraine took part in the work of the 42nd session of the Inter-Agency Coordination Committee on the Problem of Space Debris

Scientists of the Institute of Technical Mechanics of the NAS of Ukraine and SSA of Ukraine took part in the work of the 42nd session of the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC), which was held in Bangalore (India) on April 16-19, 2024.

Committee sessions are an international forum for worldwide coordination of activities related to space debris issues. The IADC promotes responsible and sustainable space debris containment practices in accordance with international space law and established guidelines. By developing cooperation and coordination with member agencies, the IADC aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of space activities for present and future generations.

The event was held in a mixed (online and offline) format with the participation of representatives of 13 leading space powers (USA, Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Japan and others).

The head of the Department of System Analysis and Control Problems of the Institute of Technical Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the SSA of Ukraine, the corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, DSc., Professor Anatolii Alpatov and the leading researcher of this department, DSc., Professor Serhii Khoroshilov, took part in the session. These experts have been officially representing Ukraine in the working groups of the committee for many years.

During the work of the session, proposals and results of the work of scientists of the Institute of Technical Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the SSA of Ukraine were presented, which contribute to the solution of the problem of space debris, and a number of issues related to the observation of space debris, modeling of its population, protection of spacecraft and discussed with leading international experts prevention of outer space pollution.
